Who am I ?
My name is Barbara Civin and I studied art at Washington University School of Fine Arts in St. Louis, where I received my B.F.A. Upon reflection, two things stood out to me. The first is that I realized that the faces I have been doodling since I was a child, were angel faces. And second , years ago when I worked as an illustrator/ art director, every project began with quieting my mind and allowing my pencil or marker to do the work. My creative process has always been there for me as this is the same approach I use when painting or sketching an angel.
If someone had told me in early May 2016 at the age of 66 that I would be painting and sketching Guardian Angels, I would have been incredulous. So, it’s a good thing that no one told me because by Memorial Day, in answer to a question, I clearly heard my angels say “draw us”.
The angels soared as those that resonated with my work commissioned their own Guardian Angels. Every angel has connected to their person, every angel face is different and the response is heart- warming. Why do my angels have faces while other angel paintings do not? My purpose is to connect Guardian Angels to their one. It is important for them to have faces, as the eyes are the window into the soul.
On this website, I am sharing my journey. It has evolved over time, from my earliest angel, Lucy, my own Guardian Angel, to the latest angels that I have posted. I have also included comments and testimonials from those who have requested their angels. It is in fact, the comments and testimonials that validate my work.
When I sit down to work, I have my markers or paints in front of me. I never have a preconceived idea of what an angel will look like as I choose colors without conscious thought. I feel as though your angel is using me as a conduit to show up on the page. Sometimes they will tell me their name as I am working. At other times they wait until I am finished. I feel very honored to help you “see” your Guardian Angel.
I am blessed to hear your angels and have discovered that they are in fact, very bossy. They take over my work and demand their input until they deem the work completed. I am a work in progress as all creative people can attest, my work is never done. I am in awe of the angels and with this awesome gift they have blessed me with.
